“The Box”, movie review

David Kelly does another ‘dooser’.

Cameron Diaz is of course, lovely.

The story is based on a Twilight Zone episode from the 1980’s. The T.Z. was done originally in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, and has made two comebacks. Once for a season or two (or three?) in the early eighties and again in 2001, or 2002, I think, on UPN…for only one season . The 1980’s had some good stories, and some interesting remakes of a couple of originals. The more recent one season comeback actually has several excellent episodes, and a couple of remakes that were done very, very, well, Eye of the Beholder, and The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street. The box was one of the better stories from the 1980’s originals. The movie version, recently released to disc, is a vastly expanded storyline (116 minutes) and with characters with “much” greater depth.

I recommend it, its overall not on any top 20 lists of mine, but it’s still worth a gander.

Comparable to (a stretch) “The Island”, or “Vanilla Sky”. With a dash of Ray Bradburys “The Martian Chronicles”. Enough said, I will not place spoilers in any of my reviews…at least, not intentionally.
